Spencer Reiter and Dietmar Pohl had a long discussion about which type of wood would be best suited for the Hornet XL. The choice went to ebony. The ebony tree grows in the tropical regions of Africa and Asia. The deep black heartwood is very hard and heavy and is one of the most beautiful and expensive types of wood. Its hardness makes it particularly resistant to weathering and suitable for daily use. Its wood, which can range in color from dark brown to almost black, blends quite well with the noble dual finish of the Hornet XL blade.
